Gerojev (Geroev in
Gerojev (Geroev in russian) is old East-Karelian surname and it is related such places as Vohtozero and Munozero (Spasskaja Guba). The name Gerojev means "Son of a hero". My own relatives left from Karelia (accurate place was Rotcezero, in finnish Ruotsjarvi) back in years 1919 - 1920 when revolution and all that disorder in Russian was in itґs worst and they became refugees of Karelia. Finally they escaped purges of Stalin to Suojarvi in 1932 and chanced their names to finnish form. One Gerojev also relocated to Suistamo. Back in 1939 they had to leave again (now by the cause of WWII) and moved to center parts of Finland. This is my story of that name and I hope all Gerojevґs all over Karelia can tell me something new about their own history. For now the name Gerojev does not exist anymore in here Finland, but in Russia (Karelia) there is still allmost one hundred people named Gerojev. They are located in Petrozavodozk, Kondopoga and other parts of modern Karelia. If you do have any information about name Gerojev, please contact me to: akiholocaust@hotmail.com (July 2003).ГЕРОЕВА ИРИНА БОРИСОВНА В 1996 заведующая отделением реабилитации, кандидат медицинских наук.
