ORIGIN OF DVORENINS ZHILINS

Jewish ancestors of dvorenins Zhilins were brought to Lithuania from Zilina(Zhilina) in Slovakia by crusaders. So they have adopted the surname Zhilin and set up their village Zilinai(Zhilins) in Lithuania.Later they have lithuanized their surname into Zilinskas(Zhilinsky),Zilenas, and Zilionis. Zhilinsky is also indicated in this website.

ZHILIN,ZILIONIS,ZILENAS' SHORT HISTORY

The variations of the surname ZHILIN,ZILIONIS,ZILENAS originated about 300 years ago from the name of lake ZHILI in Oshmena,Belarus. Somebody indicates some duke Zhilin who lived in the 17th century,but I did not find any Zhilin in the encyclopedia of Russian nobles. I made up a gen.table only of descendants of my greatgrandfather Zilionis Jonas. A gen.table of another Zilionis' branch is made up by Gintaras@Zilionis.lt My greatgreatgrandfather Zhilin is described in "The prisoner of Caucasus" by L.Tolstoy. Some members of this family are described in Lith.and Russian encyclopedias. They must be our relatives,because my grandfather mentioned them. Three brothers of my grandfather emigrated to England.
